Rock Stock & Barrel Festival – Review

I know it’s been a while since my last reviews, but in my defence I have been a bit preoccupied with one or two health issues and a dead laptop which are now hopefully resolved.

We had been looking forward to Rock /stock for some time now, having spread the word (and the love) through flyers, posters and considerable word of mouth.  Organised by the lovely Debs and Phil from the Chase Inn, @ Brownhills and supported by Scrumtiddly Ciders we were sure this was going to be a great little festival.

The festival was being held at The Chimneys in Willington, what used to be the social club for Willington power station some years ago and was now a public house which puts on regular live music for the locals.

There were a lot of bands playing over the weekend and we had all been allocated a 45 minute slot each with a 25minute turnaround, all of which was meticulously laid out on a spread sheet, so everybody knew exactly when they were of and on, and green rooming etc. I was all done very professionally and all worked like clockwork.

We were due to kick off at 1.45 pm and we were following our good friends from Steel Threads.   so we were in position and ready to set up as soon as they had completed there set.   John was using the provided house drum kit, which needed to be slipped into position with the usual setting up of breakables Glen was using the provided backline bass amp, whilst  Mark and myself were using our own gear, which we had both pretty much set up off stage and it just needed lifting into position and plugging in.

The stage was ample and plenty of power outlets were in place.  The lighting show was pretty impressive too with lasers and beamy LEDs festooning the place.

The crowd was pretty good too,  although somewhat transient as they were moving from the inside stage to the acoustic stage, getting plenty of exercise in between.   When we were playing most of the seating was full, although the large dance floor did make them seem somewhat distant, but this did not stop them from stowing there appreciation with plenty of whooping , whistling and cheering.

There were a lot of great acts on, most of which have been filmed by Chris Brown, the guy at reception, and he is banging his clips on Facebook and You Tube as we speak.  well done Chris.

All in all this was a great little festival, and I can see it going from strength to strength in the future,  a really well run event with a warm and friendly atmosphere and totally something that should not be missed.
