The Old Royal Oak – Review

Wow,  what a weekend for TTB, starting with The Old Royal Oak in Market Place Burton.  Now under new management, was sporting a new paint job, desperately needed carpets, revamped playing area with the addition of 4 power sockets just in the right place for band gear and PA etc.

When we all arrived there was a fair few in having early doors, who slowly moved on as we set up the gear.  The new management were welcoming and friendly and we felt right back at home.  We were hoping for a good turnout, as we usually do and the word was out so expectations were high.

Mick turned up, only to announce that the back door of his car was jammed shut with the bass bins and pa bits stuck inside, which meant a very awkward passage over the back seat and out of the passenger door,  after all that the door started working again -go figure.

A few tweaks and running repairs on the monitor speakon cables were necessary (they don’t make ’em like they used to) requiring google surfing by the girls to find out how they come apart, revealing they were probably put together in the dark.  All sorted and tested we did the usual sound check and were ready to go, although Mark had forgotten a vital bit of kit,  The Beer Holder on his mic stand, aghhh.

By the time we were ready to start the place was pretty full,  loads of faces we knew and a few we didn’t.  So of we went doing our usual thing and there was soon some familiar head banging going on, and we were looking out over a sea of faces.  Absolutely fantastic, the Burton Music Scene is alive and well all made possible by you all, you know who you are.  At the interval there were even more in, the goal of exceeding standing room only had been met and we were now in new territory,  as a crowd out of 10, you were definitely turned up to 11, fantastic.  Thanks again for all your support and hope you enjoy the T shirts those of you who now have them.  We are off on a bit of a tour around and abouts for a while, but will be back in Burton on 18th March in The Main Hall, Burton Town Hall for The Burton Beer Festival, 9pm start,  hope to see all you Boomers  there for what will be  another great show.
