Smithy’s Marina Bar – Review
Well here we were again, back at Smithy’s for another great night of rockin’ our socks off. We were a bit surprised to find that we were not listed on Smithy’s gig list when we checked earlier in the week, and had to call to confirm they were expecting us, when we were re-assured that posters were all about the place and all was ok.
We were looking forward to playing here again and were also aware that there was new back line amps in place for our use as part of Frankies’ sound system improvements.
We arrived in plenty of time and began to set up, we noticed that the Drums had been elevated by a box platform centre stage, which helped show the often hidden drummer during performances, but it did seem to restrict space for other band members in front of the kit. I was looking forward to using the 4 x 12 cab and valve amp supplied, but unfortunately when we plugged it it it was not working, so quickly brought my own Marshall combo in and set up as usual. Glen was loving the huge Bass stack provided and was salivating over the prospect of moving loads of air, as only bass players can. Mark hooked his own Marshall head to the provided 4 x 12 cab.
The rest was as before, using our mixing desk to provide roll back and DI options, the lighting all being in place as was the PA.
We noticed a good crowd was forming, again we welcomed Helen, now becoming one of our most enthusiastic followers having been to the last 3 gigs in a row – we don’t really think your stalking us Helen, and appreciate your support. Thanks too to Angie, Andy, Jenny, Kristin and Alex and of course Nick and Gillian and all those I’ve failed to mention here.
We cracked off and it wasn’t long before we had a couple of enthusiastic dancers in front of us, demonstration there own particular style of Rock moves. All went well for the first set, apart from the Amp Glen was using deciding to go on a little tea break and remaining stum, leading to a quick fix through the PA to finish the set. We built up throughout the second set with the bass amp now working again, and finished in our usual thumping fashion with most getting into the groove.
Overall a great time was had by all and thanks to all those positive comments from you all after the gig, we’ll be back New Years Eve. not one to be missed.
