The Gate Inn – Review

Well we were back at The Gate last Saturday after receiving a call from Sue Cutting on the Wednesday asking if we could fill in after a cancellation,  so after a few quick calls we could confirm all were available and another one in the dairy.

We all arrived to a warm welcome from Graham and his staff, and were pleased to see that the playing area had been cleared and also that the bench seat in front of the playing area had also been removed, making the place look a lot bigger and giving a direct line of sight to the whole of the pub right up to the bar.

Even though it was such short notice,  Graham had advertised really well, having  A boards, posters and chalk boards a plenty and using social media and the usual gig guides.  I wish all venues were this good.

We set up as usual in our well tested manner, only to find that the PA seemed to have a problem,  Mick was struggling to get volume from his mic.  After a lot of cable wiggling and button pressing the fault was discovered.  Glen had inadvertently plugged his mic lead into Micks port – so to speak- and a quick swap around sorted it out,  sometimes the simplest things are sent to try us.

Graham had laid on Hobgoblin and a guest ale, much to the delight of Ruth, who proceeded to consume a fair share of the stuff as soon as possible,  you always get a great drink at the Gate.

People were now arriving,  many of them new faces, and a good smattering of Boomers, sorting TTB badges as well as some of our old pals,  Harry & Pippa and Steve and his missus and Sue made an appearance later on.   We cracked through our set and enjoyed rockin it out, getting a great response from all that were there, especially as the booze flowed.  I reckon Steve and Harry might have shares in the old place by now.

We finished on a high with all wanting more,  what a great night and a big thanks to all who came down to give your support,  and we hope to see you all again soon.

We are at a private party this weekend, but the following Saturday will see us back at our old favourite venue, The Old Royal Oak,  see you there for a great party.
