The Anglesey Arms – Review

Saturday night saw us heading out to the Anglesey Arms in Winshill to  play for our old friend from the Old Royal Oak, Erv.

When we got there we noticed that the decorators were in,  with the place undergoing a major revamp at great expense, the smell of fresh paint filled our senses and we were careful not to touch anything that looked at all tacky.

The playing area was in the conservatory end, a large space which had been cleared ready for us to set up.  First things first, we put up the backdrop stand, Glenn having acquired a second stand to enable the best spread of our backdrop, after a bit of twiddling we got it up and it certainly looked better, ensuring that the stage area was wall light, tele and dartboard free.  Although it did make getting in and out a bit more problematic due to blocking the exit.

We also tried out a bit of front wash lighting, which I provided with a bit of a enormous LED spot cobbled together hastily before the gig.   Leaning it up against the wall it worked a treat, although Glen and I spent most of the night with white spots in front  of our eyes.

Apart from that, set up was pretty straight forward and we were soon ready to go.   There was a steady flow of punters and Boomers arriving and we soon had a good crowd in place.  Many familiar faces turned up, Thanks to Steve, Chink, Harry, Pippa and the guitarist from Bon Jovi Uk ,  and everyone who we managed to pin against the back wall, mind the wet paint guys.

We managed to make the place rumble and got everyone singing along towards the end,   pushing out our new numbers which went down well.  The stage was hot, as were we, I think we need to invest in a stage fan, the type that blows wind I mean, no no erm, the ones that spin around a lot, dohh  –   air conditioning.

The night was a success and Erv was happy,  although he did feel a few had stayed away thinking that nothing would be on due to the refurbishment, but a good night was had by all.  Erv is putting a re-launch shindig on this Friday with 5 cask ales on and a bit of snap if anyone fancies going down.

I’m off now to nurse my Tinnitus but look forward to seeing you all soon,  although we might see you all on Saturday  as we are all going down to the Wyggy to support DCdDC, should be a good night so come down and enjoy the fun (apparently the’re having a go a Thunderstruck, can’t wait.
