The Old Royal Oak – Review

This Saturday night we were back in Burton Market Place, performing at one of our favourite venues – The Old Royal Oak.

We knew there would be one or two boomers there as our friend Sue Cutting had created an event on FB which had been well responded too.  The last time we played here we had a great crowd and so were hoping for a repeat performance.

As many of you know, the space on stage is somewhat limited, but with the usual jiggery pokery, and Glen being ever so accommodating regarding gear placement we squished in.   Learning from our last outing here when we set off the newly installed fire alarm system, we did the old bag “n” tape trick, so there would be no repeat performances, although I secretly like it when they go off.

Again there was a fair few in at the beginning, and soon more arrived and filled the place with a friendly atmosphere and many familiar greetings from all our boomer friends.

9.30 was soon upon us and we got under way, and I have to say it felt goooood, having not played live for nearly four weeks it was great to be back.   Although Mark had had a bit of an interlude with his old band way up north somewhere?   Mick was spotted coming back from the loos after quenching his burnt finger, (during sound check the vibration had  knocked a bulb out of it’s socket) from picking up a hot bulb.

Amazingly the Oak was now crammed full from wall to wall, we had never seen it so full, and all were really getting into the spirit and singing along,  what a great audience.

Sue Cutting took some great pictures which you can see on Facebook and maybe tag yourself.

I stuck in a bit of Shenandoah at the start of 20th Century, much to the bemusement of the rest of the band, you see they had no idea what I was doing, until they heard the old full E on feedback, smashing. By now John was sporting his cool shades, we all think he likes playing in the dark, or so we heard !!!

It was an amazing night with fantastic people, thank you all for your support yet again,  and thanks to the stairway choir at the end,  Burton Rocks.
