Cockfest – Review

Well I think there has been a suitable break from the bombardment of TTB reviews to attempt scripting the events from the world famous (or Cannock famous) Cockfest.  Unlike the name suggests this is not a celebration of male body parts, but more an appreciation of the delights of our much loved poultry in it’s many forms.

This was the second year of this fluffy festival,the first being formed spontaneously from the Birds of the Feather Appreciation Society having decided to gather together in a gaggle and raise a bit of cash for charity.

This year it was being organised by Kez and ably assisted by Debs and Phil front The Chase Inn and many more enthusiastic  volunteers.

The event was held in the grounds of a small holding specialising in poultry and on a spread of some 4 acres of mown pasture ideal for camping, glamping,  sleeping under the stars and (if the fancy takes you) immitating huge male cockrels with a pink marigold on your head.

This little festival was well organised with all that you might expect in place.  More than enough toilets were provided,  food ale and cider (through SCRUMTIDDLY)  and garlands, security and that all important friendly reception.  Provided by the hard working volunteers.

The stage was a well appointed curtain sided trailer festooned with lights a black backdrop, full pa and back line, all genourously donated by local music businesses and they did a great job.

We were struck by the warm and friendly welcome we received and the relaxed nature of this festival was clear to see in the faces of all those who came down, just doing there thing and chilling out as if all were friends – absolutely brilliant.   Additional security was provided by the non stop perimeter guard of Colonel Guinea and his platoon of fouls (as seen on many Facebook photos at the time).

Many acts performed and every got into the interative events including the squishing the melon with Laggy bands thing.  I understand they’ll be going for a bigger one next year. Smashing tee he.

This was a great festival and we’ll done to all the organiser, we had a great time and hope you realise the dream for an even bigger and better one for next year.  See you all later on in The Chase.
