The Anglesey Arms – Review

This was yet another new venue for us,  The Anglesey Arms in Winshill Burton is now run by the former landlord of the Old Royal Oak and we were all looking forward to seeing the old geezer again.

The Anglesey Arms is at the top of the hill and is  a large building with a number of separate bar areas.  On entering the bar area we were directed to the Lounge by some nice people having a tipple.   The lounge was a large open room with a conservatory at one end looking out onto the Oldest remaining bowls green in Burton.

There were quite a few people about, and it wasn’t long before we were greeted by Irve, nice to see you all again etc and we got on with loading in. This was helped by the conservatory doors being opened, leading straight onto the playing area, which was suitably large once the pool table had been moved aside.

The Anglesey usually puts live acts on on a Saturday night, and being Friday some of the staff weren’t aware we were coming, although there was plenty of posters around the place and a A board outside.  Considering how big the room was we managed to get enough in to make it a good night.  Many of the punters were new faces, but a few stalwarts were there too.  Hi Helen, nice to see you again, and my friends Tony and Carol came down together with the wife, having had a few drinks first in Burton and walking up the hill,  a feat that I was reminded of a number of times during the night,  but once a few more drinks had got down it soon became forgotten.

We soon set up and got under way,  a great response from the crowd and the sound being pretty good resulted in a great first gig for the Anglesey.   We chatted with quite a few of the punters in the break and they were all friendly and a great bunch of people.

As usual we had ’em up and dancing towards the end,  and a good night was had by all,  see you all next time.
