The Chequers Inn – Review
The Chequers Inn was now under new management and this was to be our first gig here since the change, we had played plenty of gigs here in the past and they had always proven to be a good venue.
We arrived to be greeted by Kate and given a warm welcome, Kate is trying to make a go of the Chequers and is keen to make this a no 1 live music venue.
The place had had a bit of a uplift and had been re-decorated, giving it a fresh feel. The playing area was already prepared for us, with the pool table being set aside and tables and chairs moved. We noticed straight away that a few of our old punters were already in situe and looking forward to our performance.
After our usual preparations we were ready to go and by now there was a pretty good crowd in place, having seen a steady flow arriving during our set-up.
There was a very friendly atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, as we pushed through the set. During Highway Star, Micks enthusiastic pressing of the smoke machine button set of the smoke alarm, which kinda of added to the effect, although we would have preferred it to happen during Breaking the Law.
A good time was had by all and we had plenty of positive comments from the punters and also from Kate herself. Great crowd and great venue, we are booked in again in the new year and are looking forward to it.
