The Gate Inn – Review
Saturday night and we were off to the Gate Inn at Branston, I had popped down earlier in the week and taken some posters down, approaching Main Street I noticed a bright yellow sign advertising us and approaching the venue could see that it was festooned with posters with Tick Tick Boom on and some imaginary artwork to boot. Inside I was greeted by Jan and Graham, landlords of the Gate and they made me feel very welcome. The Gate in is a well maintained Public House which clearly has some high standards. sporting food and a good selection of drinks including some well chosen real ales. Soon after my visit the posters I supplied were up and had even been posted on Facebook, well done the Gate, clearly a professional team at the helm here.
The guys all arrived in plenty of time, and the playing area had been cleared ready for us on arrival, using the French doors to the garden area as access made it easy to load up and we soon had our gear in place and were ready to rock. Early on there were not many people in, and although Graham seemed a bit apprehensive about numbers, we were sure that there would be a good turnout as we had publicised this gig well, we were not to be disappointed. By the time we kicked off there was a good crowd in place, again a lot of new faces for us but hello, Helen was here again, she must love us. Later our good friends Harry and Pip came down too – always nice to see you H. and Sue Cutting put in a short appearance too, thank you all for your continued support.
Kicking off we soon had the crowd going, although a couple of sound issues needed sorting out, it didn’t seem to matter as we rocked the place. We soon had everyone singing along and enjoying our tones, Loud and Proud is our motto and we certainly lived up to that. During the break we again chatted to the punters and all were friendly and giving positive feedback, after a few selfies with my top hat as the centre piece and dishing out a mitt full of our promotional lighters and badges we were back on. Building up to a brilliant night, we enjoyed it as much as all our supporters and those new Boomers that came down too.
The Gate is a great place to gig and the staff are friendly and helpful, the beer is well kept and good quality, perfect recipe for a good night out.
Thanks to Graham and Jan and all who made it a memorable night, hope to see you again soon.
