The Railway Inn – Review
The last time we played the Railway in Swadlincote we were a bit disappointed with the turnout but those that were there were enthusiastic and made it worth while, this time we were hoping for more as we had advertised and campaigned to get more down.
A few hours before we were due to turn up we were asked if we could come down earlier at 6 and set up, go home and come back later, apparently due to the new restaurant opening and the disturbance our setting up might cause to the diners. Phoning around all the guys it was impossible to get there that early but we did decide to get there half an hour earlier to help set up issues. As it transpired it was pretty awkward as having the patio doors open to get the kit in was disturbing the one diner that was there, and a couple that had just arrived, so we retired to the bar and had a couple of drinks and a chat while we waited for the coast to clear.
After about and hour and half the restaurant was finally cleared so we could get on with setting up, quite a few punters were now arriving and some familiar faces amongst them. We ended up cracking off at about 9.45 and launched straight into Don’t Believe a Word followed immediately by Breaking The Law. We were pleased when we got rapturous applause and cheering which lifted us and we went on to deliver a stonking first set, interjected with screams, cheers and mad clapping.
At the interval we where congratulated on our set selection and great delivery of classic rock that they all knew, bringing back some fond memories of their youthful exploits. One young lady had come down from Middlesbrough and decided to spend her time watching Tick Tick Boom.
Hats off to the Guy who removed his false leg and used it to do air guitar (leg guitar) whilst rocking out to our more driving numbers, some video was taken so watch out for any clips, it’s hilarious. Our friendly (Dakota Lady) was there again and had a crack at a duet with Mick, thanks for coming.
We finish on a high with beer being spilt and good humoured merriment and frolicking as we wound up with Run to the Hills, Highway to Hell and that good old timeless beastie boys number.
A cracking crowd and a great night, thank you to all who came down.
