The Stumble Inn- Review

We always have a good night at the Stumble in Long Eaton, and this was no different,  although being the first Saturday we had played here we had some doubt as to what kind of a crowd we would get.   Arriving as usual to find a number of people already claiming there prime seats in front of the playing area, a couple of well known faces to us were there, always a good sign.

We loaded our gear in and set up the backdrop, which proved slightly awkward as a new speaker had been placed on the wall, right where our banner stand needed to go,  but with a bit of jiggery pokery and application of quantum mathematics we finally got in in, albeit at a rather obtuse angle.

Good news was that the gaming machine which used to reside in the playing area had been re-located to next to the entrance which helped with stage space.   Mick was also having issues with positioning the PA speakers, brought about again by yet another of the new speaker installations, so had to settle for a not so ideal position in front of the playing area.

As we set up, the bar area began to fill up,  more and more came in and yet again a lot of familiar faces.  Our old friend Kev AKA Cohan the Barbarian, turned up with his missus, and a good old friend of Ruth’s, Louise had popped in to see us play with a couple of girl friends (who turned out to be real rock chicks),  plus a lot of usual suspects including Aide and Laura, and of course Jan from Trent lock.  I did notice that a few of you were toting proper cameras, you know who you are, with them there big lens that can spot a wart at 500 paces.

A quick run through Gimme sorted the sound out and we were ready to rock.   Kicking off at 9.30 the place was now packed and the very nice beer was flowing well.  The Stumble has it’s own micro brewery which produced some very tasty beers, which Ruth had to sample and can vouch that they were top notch,  by the end of the night she had downed 6 pints of the stuff which had a somewhat meandering effect on her gate.

Fist set got a great response form the crowd,  it wasn’t long before the dancing started and many of the revellers perching on tables shelves and chairs to get a good view and operate the phone cameras,  at one point it became somewhat strobe-esk, but all were having a great time.

The second set was equally as impressive, and by now everyone was peaking as the ale flowed,  I went out into the crowd during Black night and Rosie to a great reception from the masses.  What a great party atmosphere, all were having a fantastic time.  The camera crowd were also gathering in front of the band and clicking away to a performance of contorted positions, I’m guessing they got some good shots,  any chance of seeing ’em chaps and chap-esses?

Part way through the second set, the landlord produced a tray of complimentary shots for all the put, phew, that warmed the cockles,  a really nice touch, well done the Stumble.

This is a great Venue, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good night and some excellent quality beer,  we’ll be back again soon and are already looking forward to it.

Thanks to all who came down to support us, hope you had as good a time as us, see you all again soon.
