The Tudor Inn – Review

We were returning to Castle Donington after just 2 weeks away, having done the Pre – Download gig earlier in the month at The Tudor Inn.   Earlier in the day I had received a call from Carol asking if we could set up in the bar area as the gig the night before had had a poor turnout and she felt it would be cosier in the bar.

So when we all turned up we went for a quick recce of the playing area,  hmmm, small and cosier was right, we would be facing the bar and already the helpful staff were clearing a space for us to play in.  The first thing we noticed was that this change would mean that our kit now had to be humped a much greater distance, but this was overcome by moving our cars around the back and using that entrance.

We were pretty confident that we would get a fair crowd in and so set up in time honoured fashion,  Vassily Boomer, sporting his new badge adorned top hat, had joined us and had decided to take residence on the to of my amp,  saying that he got the best view from there and he liked the vibrations.

We also noticed we were facing our dreaded cross beam (common in smaller venues) which had a tendency to choke the sound and bounce it back to stage, so we had to adjust our sound levels, taking into account the absorbency qualities of the plush carpet throughout.

There were a few in and some who had come down specifically to see us, so we were up for it again,  let’s get on with the show.

Cracking on, more turned up and were soon head banging stage front,  sorry about the lack of space lads and lasses, next time we’ll clear a bit of a mosh pit for ya.   I could see everyone was enjoying our efforts, using foot tapping, head banging and synchronised audience participation as a simple guide.

The temperature was certainly rising in the Tudor, borne out by the rivers of sweat dripping from all of us by the end of the night,  so we immediately retired to the cool outdoor garden area straight after the last chord was struck.

Vassily said that he had a great time and that he would definitely be at our next gig,  he even offered to help us promote gigs on our Facebook Page.

Carol was pleased with how it went and enjoyed the music.  Thanks to all you Boomers who came down to support us, and thanks to George (The Pub Cat) for reminding me to call the missus.   Now that’s Rock and Roll, ‘aint it?
