The Tudor Inn – Review
Well we are back to the heady days of festivals and barbecues, the first major festival of the year is Download held at Castle Donington and guess what, yep that’s right we are the first band playing to this prestigious crowd.
All right, we might not be playing the ACTUAL Download festival but as near as damn it – you can smell the sweaty trainers and stubbies on the breeze wafting down the hill and we could feel the eager anticipation of so many rock music lovers who had been basking in the unusual baking hot sun whilst putting up their festival tents and lubricating there tonsils with copious amounts of alcohol.
This is not the first time we have done this one – we are fast becoming a regular fixture for the Download spectacle.
Setting up as usual with no hitches we were looking forward to a good night, although not many were in when we arrived at about half 7, the landlord told us that it had been crazy all day and a lot of people had been drinking throughout the day and had gone to sleep it off, although many had assured him they would be back later for the band.
The first set was played to a mild mannered bunch, with the exception of one chap at the front, who seemed to be really enjoying our stuff, turns out he loves the era we play and was well into it. Hailing from Bonnie Scotland, Glasgow to be precise, he was down for the Download festival with his wife, (who was shooting pool in the next room). They were staying in the Inn despite having purchased camping and storage at the festival, last minute thing giving way to comfort I reckon. But were the life and soul during the second set (ps If you didn’t get a badge, you two – drop me a line via our web and I’ll see what I can do).
We were not helped by the fact that Brazil were playing the first game of the World Cup on a big screen next door – but hey it is the World Cup after all. Despite all this a steady stream of people were filtering in and enjoying our historic tunes.
Second half came – band not football, which had now finished, the room was now full and all were singing along in the manner that we were coming to get used to. The sound was great and all had a great time, nicely warmed up for the riff filled delights of the days to come.
Another great gig at the Tudor and we’re back in a couple of weeks to do it all again – yeeee haah.
