Unwanted MCC – Review
Well it’s been a while since my last confession, but there is a time when you just cannot ignore an event with so many highlights. Yes you’ve got it, the Unwanted MCC 16th Birthday Bash in their clubhouse at the Rockbar, Shobnall Road. Although the place is easy to find and we had been there before, most of us seemed to have difficulty with locating it. Despite being armed with sat navs and directions we managed to take scenic routes and unplanned diversions requiring detailed guidance for some of our team, delivered by The Management, before we could all become a band again. Luckily Mark was able to follow the smoke signals from the bonfire on site, which closed him in on the final leg.
There was free camping provided, and surprisingly as well as a few cosy caravans there was a good scattering of tents set out in the grassy area outside the club, in what looked to be a very damp, cold and gooey situation.
We started to set the gear up on the ample stage area, with the help of the in house sound man, full PA was provided with mics and monitors, lights and smoke provided in abundance.
There were quite a few people in place by now, some faces we recognised, others not so much, but there was a general friendly and fun atmosphere about the place and somehow I just knew it was going to be a good night.
Our good friend Lynn had popped down as part of a mini support tour of a couple of her Rockers Reunited bands and we caught up with a chin wag after we had done the first set etc before she went to see the Junction, another great band, play at the Navigation. Rip also came down to check out the show, Rip is helping us out by taking the drumming position shortly and seeing us live just helps with the transition.
At half time we popped outside to cool down and one or two to have a fag etc, only to find that it was snowing heavily, and was now covering the tents in an even white blanket. Well done to those who braved the weather but I was led to believe that the club might be held open for those who needed a safe warm place to kip.
Second half was absolutely nuts, the dance floor in front of stage had been occupied for most of the night, but was now heaving with plenty of head banging going on, so I kinda joined them, with my own version of retro head banging whilst playing Rosie, helped by the young lady who took my top hat for a cruise around the dance floor. Top hat didn’t mind at all, cause as everyone knows, top hats prefer blondes, don’t they?
We finished on a high with Run to the Hills, Paradise and the old reliable, Beastie Boys, retiring gracefully to the heavy metal tones from the in house disco which carried on the party into the small hours.
We all had a blast and TTB would like to thank everybody for a great night, sometimes we are not worthy of such a great crowd but love you all for your support and making it all worthwhile for us. Together we will keep Live Music Alive and kicking.
